What is the difference between web developer and web designer?

Web developers and designers frequently work together, but what are their distinct differences? Which one do you prefer to be?

Web designers are expected to code, whereas web developers are frequently expected to be familiar with Photoshop and Illustrator. Web design is the process of creating a website, while web development is the process of generating a website in code. The distinction between designers and developers is therefore very hazy, but you would anticipate that designers would be naturally better at the creative aspects while developers would be better at the technical aspects, such as using JavaScript to create order entry forms rather than just for animating on-page elements. However, these roles can essentially be divided into 3 work roles:

  • Designing front-end websites

In charge of designing, laying out, and producing a website’s visuals using a programme like Photoshop, Illustrator, or Fireworks.

  • Designer of back-end websites

A “front-end” web designer would not be responsible for coding their design into an HTML and CSS version without “back end” expertise. To do that for them, they would hire someone else. However, in most cases, a web designer with “back end” expertise can translate their visual concept into a completely functional HTML, JavaScript, and CSS layout. But because online design and development overlap, the term “Front-end Website Developer” is frequently used to refer to the same skill. Thus, the confusion!

  • Web developer

The primary responsibility of a web developer is to hand-code complicated programming and scripting languages specifically for each website in order to extend its capabilities beyond what is achievable using HTML and CSS. For instance, creating and testing code languages to construct all the various sorts of online functionalities, from the algorithms underlying pricing comparison websites to publishing basic data within a contact form, would fall under this category.

If you want to establish a simple website, you probably only need a design consultant. However, if you want to build a more complicated website, you might need to hire two different businesses, one to handle the design and the other for development. You must take these factors into account before you even consider employing any designers or developers.

A design consultant will typically create the look and feel of the website, how it looks, the colour schemes, what goes where, and ensure that your web design services fife are easy on the eye. This is obviously an important part of the process because if a website visitor arrives at your site and doesn’t like the design, they will click away. Before launching your website, a site design expert will typically develop a simple mock-up of the website design and present it to you in a draught format for your approval. They can proceed to finish the design once you have given your approval or provided any additional recommendations.

A completed web design is then “sliced” into HTML and PHP in order to be published online. Your website designer also does this. When it comes time to build the more complicated components of the website or whenever any type of advanced coding is required, web developers are called upon. A design consultant may usually add an online form to the website, but a web developer will handle this work if the site needs interactive elements like a custom shopping cart, a custom management system, or other features. Web developers work on the coding and other aspects of the website that are unrelated to design.

The company you choose must be able to handle all aspects of web development and design if you want to avoid being struck with unforeseen costs related to outsourcing and other factors, where the designer will probably add an extra fee or profit on top of the work. If you decide to start a website design project, it will be quite advantageous if the firm you select is able to handle tasks like Search engine design optimization and other promotional-based work.
